Electrical Outlets in Thailand and Vietnam

What type of adapters do you need to bring to Thailand?

Are the wall sockets/plugs the same type Europe uses?

In my first travels to Thailand six years ago I was very nervous about whether the outlets would accept my regular American style devices. I bought a two-blade plug adapter, and felt mild panic when using outlets, because I'm stupid and nervous. I eventually realized that it actually wasn't necessary to pass every device through this adapter. Anyways, that adapter did come in handy when I found myself in areas that did not have three pronged or grounded outlets, mostly in Vietnam. Thailand uses a hybrid socket that accepts the North American-standard flat-blade plug and the European-standard round pin plug. You'll need an adaptor for two-blade plugs for grounded plugs. You might be worried, but, well, many "grounded" sockets are not actually connected to a proper ground anyways, That's not great, I know, but what the best solution, is to shrug your shoulders and get over it.

It's been a long time since I bought my little portable adapter so I can't link to it here, but something like this TESSAN 3 to 2 Prong USB Outlet Plug (p.s.: this is an affiliate link) will do if you're in a tight spot. Honestly, most of the time if you aren't traveling in the offbeat paths you probably won't have much of a problem not carrying an adapter, but better safe than sorry. It's up to you.

Remember, most modern electronic device's chargers accept various voltages and will work without any problem. Don't plug in hair dryers, curling irons because they will fry due to Thailand using 220 volts and 50 Hz. You can leave them at home, most hotels will have hair dryers and such. Don't stress, and don't overpack. Unless you want to I guess.
