use these links to find good info...but don't overthink the info you find

Links I use a bunch

Apps I use

  • Agoda - also Agoda.com - I search for hotels/hostels using Agoda. From what I've read and seen Agoda I've found lower prices using this than other services. I like the layout, map and search functions seem better and it's easier to stick to one app rather than bouncing around and overthinking. If you just have to try others, check out the apps by booking.com and hotels.com.

  • Currency Converter

  • Line - Many people Thailand and other SEA countries use this messenger app

  • Lazada - Thailand's Amazon

  • Grab - delivery and taxi service (Uber and Ubereats for Thailand/SEA countries, I've tried out Bolt's app but never used it. My experience with Grab drivers has been mixed, only used twice. The first was fine, just going from Pattaya to the immigration office in Jomtien. The second time I took a Grab car to the nearest airport (UTP). It was far, but I had to negotiate fair with the drivers. I ended up paying something like 700 for a lift there. Also the Grab driver cancelled the trip while we were on the way to the airport. I got a little nervous but understood he just didn't want Grab taking their cut of the profits. Ultimately the whole purpose to use Grab is so you don't have to do the whole negotiation song and dance so I was really didn't like that, but not the apps fault.

  • StormX - get crypto back for purchases. I've used it a couple times when you could shop with Agoda using it. Before that they had a special where you could get a couple cents in Bitcoin for watching some ads and I would do that. I made about $20 dollars, which at one point BTC raised in price and it ended up being a little over $100.

  • Major Cineplex, SF Cinema - purchase movie theater tickets and check what's showing

  • Foodpanda - a food service like Grab - I've never used it but figured I'd include here anyways

  • QueQ - only ever used it at Immigration in Jomtien (near Pattaya) Thailand, but it worked to let me know how close I was getting. Didn't see anyone else using it, but I liked being kept updated.

SouthEast Asia General:
  • thethailandlife.com : a website by a guy who knows more than me

  • https://phil.uk.net/index.html : best for Thai Language instruction

  • Aseannow.com : Site with forums I use to gain on the ground current information from experienced travelers and foreign locals living in ASEAN countries.
